Join the European Football Championship for refugees

The Dutch football team is looking for you! You can participate in the European refugee championship, the UNITY EURO Cup in Nyon, Switzerland. Read here what you have to do to do so.

What is the UNITY EURO Cup?

The Unity EURO Cup is a European football tournament for refugees. The European Football Association (UEFA) and the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) are organising the tournament. On 9, 10 and 11 October 2024, the UNITY EURO Cup will take place in Nyon, Switzerland. The Netherlands will participate in this tournament.  Are you a refugee in the Netherlands and would you like to participate? Then you can register now for the football days in your neighbourhood.

How can I participate?

Before the UNITY EURO Cup takes place, special football days are organised by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB). On this day everyone can show what they can do. Sunday, 1 September is the selection day for the KNVB in Zeist. You will play football this day on the campus of the KNVB. After that it will be announced who is in the Dutch team. A total of 12 players will be selected. Of which 3 must be women. If you are chosen, you may go to the UNITY EURO Cup 2024 in Nyon, Switzerland, together with coach René van Rijswijk. Participation in the football days and the trip to Nyon is free.

Who may sign up?

You can sign up if you:

  • Are 18 years of age or older

  • Have an asylum residence permit or have fled from Ukraine

  • Have the proper travel documents

  • Are available on 1 September for the tournament in Zeist

  • Are available to go to Nyon in October

How can you sign up?

The football days are organised at several locations in the Netherlands:

  • Thursday, 16 May (10:00 to 14:00) in Didam, at SV Loil (for men and women)

  • Friday, 24 May in Rosmalen (17:00 to 21:30), at OJC Rosmalen (note: for women only)

  • Friday, 24 May in Rosmalen (17:00 to 21:30), at OJC Rosmalen (for men and women)

  • Friday, 14 June in The Hague (13:30 to 17:00), at Koninklijke HC&VV (for men and women)

  • Sunday, 16 June in Amsterdam (09:30 to 14:30, at AVV Zeeburgia (for men and women)
