If you are from Syria and you applied for asylum in the Netherlands before 1 May 2023, you may receive a letter from the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) about your asylum application.

IND sometimes processes asylum applications from Syria faster

Are you from Syria and have applied for asylum in the Netherlands? Then you might receive a letter from the IND to participate in a faster asylum procedure. Currently, the IND is processing asylum applications of most people from Syria faster.

If you receive an invitation from the IND about the fast-track procedure, you are required to participate. Your lawyer will get the same letter as you. The letter tells you where and when you will have an interview with an IND employee. Together with your lawyer, you prepare for this interview.

You will then have a shorter interview, perhaps at your reception centre location

If you come from Syria, you are often more likely to get an asylum residence permit because you come from a country that is largely unsafe. That is why the IND may invite you for a shorter interview about the reasons for your application for asylum. The IND calls such a conversation a hearing. The IND then makes a decision about your application for asylum.

Employees of the IND may come to your reception centre to interview you. You do not then have to travel to an IND office.

Not everyone from Syria gets faster procedure

If you are under 18 and have not yet had your 1st interview with the IND, the IND might invite you for a combined hearing. Then your 1st and 2nd hearing will be held at the same time. These interviews are called the "application hearing" and the "detailed hearing". The invitation you may receive contains more information about your combined hearing.

If you are not invited, but you are from Syria, the IND does not invite everyone from Syria for this fast-track asylum procedure. It is not clear who receives an invitation to the fast-track procedure and who does not.
