VluchtelingenWerk Nederland (VWN) will probably need to stop providing support for family reunification from reception locations

The Minister of Asylum & Migration has decided that the IND must start providing support for people in reception locations who apply for family reunification. This will be the case from 1 December. VluchtelingenWerk Nederland (VWN) will no longer receive money to provide this support. The minister writes this in a letter to VWN.

now provides support with these applications for family reunification for people in reception locations.

It is still unclear how the IND will do this. For years, the IND has struggled to process asylum applications on time. The waiting time for assessing family reunification applications also sometimes runs for as long as 23 months at the IND.

If VluchtelingenWerk Nederland (VWN) stops assisting with family reunification applications, refugees may have to complete their applications themselves. And that is difficult. That is why VWN will continue to have discussions with the ministry and the IND in the near future. If there is any news about this, we will report this on RefugeeHelp.

However, support with family reunification (and family formation) through the municipalities can continue to be provided by VluchtelingenWerk Nederland (VWN). This is because municipalities pay for this separately.
