Find a workplace in healthcare through the 'Op je plek in de zorg' project

'Op je plek in de zorg' is a course in Leiden for status holders who want to work in healthcare. In this article you can read what the course is and how to get started in healthcare in the Netherlands.

What is 'Op je plek in de zorg'?

Op je plek in de zorg is a course in Leiden, set up by the Municipality of Leiden,

, Alrijne Zorggroep and mboRijnland.

The course helps status holders get training and a job in healthcare. After completing the course, you get a permanent job in elder care.

Elder care is help and care for people aged 55 and older. This care can be physical, mental or social. The goal is for the elderly to remain as independent as possible and feel well.

The entire course lasts 4 years and consists of:

  • A 1-year preliminary course

  • MBO level 1 for 1 year

  • MBO level 2 for 2 years

During the course:

  • Follow a preliminary course

  • Start with an

    healthcare course

  • Do an internship in healthcare

  • Get support with learning and working

  • Upon completion, you will get a permanent job in

  • If you are chosen to participate, you will receive housing in the municipality of Leiden as soon as possible.

Who is this course for?

This course is for status holders who:

  • Still live in the

  • Are single

  • Are motivated to work in healthcare

  • Want to learn and improve their Dutch

  • Want to learn and gain practical knowledge through an internship

  • Want to live in Leiden

Selection is done by the municipality of Leiden and VluchtelingenWerk Nederland (VWN).

Selection considers:

  • Language level

  • Motivation

  • Previous education or work experience

  • Interest in healthcare

What do you get as a participant?

If selected, you get:

  • A preliminary course

  • MBO courses: Assistant Services (MBO-1) and Helping Care and Services (MBO-2)

  • Support while learning and working

  • A home: a private studio in Leiden

  • After completion, a permanent job in elder care

You will do this during the preliminary course

The preliminary course helps you get off to a good start in the MBO. You will receive support from teachers and a tutor.

In addition, you will be taught about

in healthcare and services. You also get a preliminary introduction to healthcare practice. During the preliminary training you also work on your commitment, your motivation, insight into your talents and abilities.

After the preliminary course, you will take an MBO course

After the preliminary course, you start the MBO program.

You start at MBO level 1, then move on to MBO level 2. The beginning looks like this:

  • Take approximately 8 hours of theory classes per week

  • Do 3 days per week of internship in healthcare practice

  • Get support from healthcare professionals

  • Receive lessions from mboRijnland

You will live, work and study in Leiden

For single status holders living in the ASC, studios are available in Leiden, in a housing complex next to the Alrijne Hospital.

You will also receive support with:

  • Housing

  • Money matters

  • Participation in society

If you successfully complete your course, you will get a permanent job at Alrijne Zorggroep, or one of the healthcare organisations within the AVANT

network. This will not only get you work, but also a future in Leiden.
