Cookies
A cookie is a small text file that is placed on your computer, tablet or smartphone during your visit to a website. This file stores information that is recognised during future visits. This makes it possible, for instance, that you can remain logged in on a website or that your language settings are remembered. There are three types of cookies:
Functional cookies: these are cookies that are necessary for the website to function. For example, a web shop that remembers which products you put in your shopping basket.
Analytical cookies: these cookies collect statistics, such as the number of visitors to the website and the click behaviour of visitors.
Tracking cookies: by placing these cookies it is possible to track your behaviour online. For example, after viewing a certain product on a webshop, you may come across this product again in an advertisement on another website.
VluchtelingenWerk Nederland (VWN) uses functional, analytical and tracking cookies. The functional cookies are used, among other things, for the integration of social media on our website, such as Twitter and Facebook. The analytical cookies are used to improve the quality of our website. By seeing how visitors use our website and which links are clicked on most, we can determine which parts of our website are most interesting to our visitors.
We also use cookies to see if a page that we think is interesting for you can be found easily. For example, if you are looking for certain information on our website but cannot find it, we can see this in the statistics collected by the cookies. This way we know how to make the structure, navigation and content of our website more user-friendly.
We also regularly use the cookies for A/B testing. These are tests in which we make two versions of one page and see which leads to the best results. The data we store for these tests is not linked to personal data and is therefore anonymous.
The cookies we use to advertise through Google AdWords, we do see the demographic data of the AdWords visitors, but this data cannot be traced back to an individual person. We make use of a 'Third party cookie'.
Finally, our tracking cookie from Facebook keeps track of how often promotional content has been viewed and gives us insights into the advertising campaign on Facebook. This prevents you from seeing the same ad too often. Advertisers and third parties can use these tracking cookies to create a visitor profile. If you want to know more about the use of Facebook's tracking cookies, you can read more about this on Facebook's website.
It is possible to delete cookies. How to do so depends on the web browser you use to view web pages. Well-known web browsers include Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari. You can also set your browser to notify you as soon as you receive a cookie or to block cookies. This may prevent the website from functioning optimally. For more information about the settings related to cookies and specific browsers, please consult the help function of your web browser.
