The IND will now assess your application. You can follow the decision via My IND. You will also receive the official decision by post.

Waiting for the IND's decision on your application for family formation

The

will make a decision on your application within 90 days. You can follow the status of your application in 'Mijn IND'. To log in, you need a
.

Sometimes the IND needs more time. For example, if your application is not complete or if the IND needs additional documents. In that case, you will receive a letter from the IND. The letter states how much extra time the IND needs or which documents you still have to send. Send your response to the letter in time to the IND.

You can track the status of your application for family reunification online through 'Mijn IND'.

The IND makes a decision: positive or negative

After the assessment, you will receive a letter from the IND. There are two options:

  • Positive decision: your partner may come to the Netherlands.

  • Negative decision: your partner may not come to the Netherlands.

This happens in the event of a positive decision from the IND

Does the IND approve your application for family formation? Then your partner will receive an

and a residence permit. Your partner must collect the mvv personally from the Dutch embassy you filled out on the application form. Your partner must make an appointment for this at the Dutch embassy in their country. Your partner must do this within 3 months after the IND has made its decision. The letter from the IND tells you how to make an appointment. During the appointment, your partner will need the following:

  • A valid passport (valid for at least 6 months).

  • A digitally completed, printed and signed mvv form.

  • A new passport photo that meets the requirements.

Your partner must bring the documents to the embassy. Then the embassy will take fingerprints from your partner. And the embassy sticks the mvv sticker in the passport. Your partner usually has to come back later to collect the passport with the mvv sticker. Your partner may travel to the Netherlands with the passport and the mvv sticker. The mvv is valid for 90 days. Choose your country and read how to apply for the mvv visa sticker to travel to the Netherlands.

This is what happens when the IND makes a negative decision

Has the IND not approved your application for family formation? If not, your partner will not receive a visa to come to the Netherlands. You can object to the IND's decision. You can contact a lawyer to do so. Make sure you file your objection in time. The IND's decision will state the date by which you must file an objection.

Pick up residence permit if your family formation is approved

If your partner is in the Netherlands, your partner must register in the

of your municipality within 5 days of arrival. After a few weeks, you or your partner will also receive a letter from the IND with information about picking up the residence document. You can make an appointment via the IND site at one of the IND desks. Your partner will receive the residence document there. This residence document is valid for a maximum of 5 years.

Maybe your partner will need a TB test

Your partner may need to have a TB test after arriving in the Netherlands. This depends on the country your partner comes from.

You can check the government website to see if your partner needs a TB test.
