IND to decide on asylum applications of 100 Syrian asylum seekers

Published at: 30/10/2025, 00:00

Starting this week, the IND is again conducting interviews with Syrian asylum seekers who have not yet received a decision on their asylum applications. This and next week, the IND will conduct interviews with 100 people in AZC Budel. This does not yet mean that Syrians will be forced to return if their asylum applications are rejected.

Syrians who are now being interviewed by the IND have already received a letter about this

is conducting interviews with about 100 Syrian asylum seekers in the coming weeks. They have received a letter about this. Most of these asylum seekers have not previously had an interview with the IND. But also some asylum seekers who did have a previous interview will have a new interview. This is because the situation in Syria has changed due to the fall of Assad. A decision is also made on the asylum applications of Syrians who went to court because their asylum applications were rejected.

Since the new policy went into effect, the IND has rejected most Syrian asylum requests

Since the Minister of Migration and Asylum told us in June that the IND can start assessing asylum requests again, asylum requests have been processed. But there have not been very many so far. It seems that the IND will now start assessing all asylum requests that have not yet been decided.

Since the new policy, the IND has rejected most Syrian asylum requests. In total, there are still nearly 17,000 Syrian asylum seekers in the Netherlands waiting for a decision.

What can you do yourself if the IND reviews your asylum application again?

To get a residence permit, it is important that you can prove that you are still in personal danger even in present-day Syria. Therefore, prepare well for the interview with the IND and collect information that shows that it is still not safe for you in Syria. Read here what you can do to properly prepare for your interview with the IND.

Free returns are encouraged by government: monetary amounts go up temporarily

Syrian asylum seekers who do not receive a residence permit will not now be forcibly returned to Syria. Before that is possible, the Dutch government must first make arrangements with the government in Syria. However, the Dutch government does want to encourage voluntary return to Syria. The amount that Syrians receive who return to Syria by themselves will temporarily increase until 1 January 2026. An adult returning will receive an amount of €5,000. For each child, the Dutch government will pay €2,500.
