As a Ukrainian student in the Netherlands, you will probably pay more tuition fees starting in September. This academic year, colleges and universities charged a lower fee for refugees from Ukraine. For next academic year, schools will not do this as standard.

Studying for Ukrainians more expensive next academic year

Tuition may be up to €10,000 more per year for the 2023-2024 academic year. This high amount may apply if you are going to start studies this year, but also for Ukrainian students who started studies last year.

In addition, Ukrainian students will also not be eligible for study financing next year. Only students with Dutch citizenship or with a residence permit can take advantage of this.

The amount varies depending on the institution

The institutions may decide how much tuition they charge foreign students next year. Colleges and universities last academic year asked for the minimum amount per year in tuition fees. This is called the statutory rate and was around €2,209. For the 2023 - 2024 academic year, your university may charge its fee. The feeis a special amount for foreign students. The fee is much higher than the minimum amount.

Please note: If you have Ukrainian citizenship and started studying at a college last year, this high amount does not apply to you. You will then pay the minimum legal tuition fee just like last academic year. Universities do get to decide the amount they charge.
