The minister must reassess the security situation in Yemen
The Netherlands' highest court ruled in a ruling two weeks ago that the Minister of Asylum & Migration must look again at Yemen's asylum policy. Last year, the minister decided that Yemen was no longer unsafe for everyone everywhere. And that asylum seekers from Yemen must therefore now prove why it is not safe for them.
No decisions on asylum requests for Yemenis for a while
The court finds that the minister did not properly explain why it is no longer unsafe for everyone everywhere in Yemen. A new official report on Yemen was published this year in April. The court therefore asks the minister to look again at the situation in Yemen. Until then, the IND will not decide on asylum requests from people from Yemen for the time being.
It may be that the minister will change the asylum policy based on the official report. However, it could also be that the minister still thinks the policy is good. But then the minister will have to explain this to the court.
