Watch out for fake messages from the IND

Published at: 18/02/2026, 00:00

Fake messages from the IND are being circulated again right now. Some people in the asylum process receive a text message on their phone that appears to be from the IND, but those messages are so not from the IND. Read here what you can do if you get a message.

The messages ask you to immediately change your personal information (name, date of birth, bank information) on the

website. Because that would be important for your asylum procedure. In the message is a link to the website where you can do this.

You may also receive such a text message. If you do, do not click on the link and delete the message from your phone. Do not open the link to the website. And certainly do not give any details. If you have clicked on the link and doubt whether the message is from the IND, you can tell whether it is fake or real by looking at a number of things.

How can you tell that it is not the IND's website?

The fake website (see the photo accompanying this post) may look like the IND website, but it is not. The fake site shows MijnOverheid and the IND logo. But next to the IND logo, for example, it does not say Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND). If you are still in doubt, go to the consultation hour of

or to the
. They also know about fake messages being sent and can look out for this with you.
