Published at: 11/2/2023, 4:01 PM

If you have a card from BNG Bank, as of 1 December 2023, these BNG Bank cards can no longer be used. You can find more information about this in this article.

Living allowance can no longer be received on BNG Bank debit card

Many municipalities in the Netherlands work with prepaid debit cards from BNG. This is a card which the municipality pays your living allowance onto each month. You can get this debit card if you do not yet have your own current account. BNG Bank is discontinuing debit cards on 1 December 2023. Make sure you take your money from your card before then. As after this date, you can no longer use the card or withdraw money from it.

Ask your municipality how you can receive your living allowance now

Municipalities offer other options for receiving your money on it starting 1 December 2023. Check with your municipality to see what your options are. Some municipalities offer a different type of debit card, this is called the 'maatschappelijke betaalpas' (social debit card). Other municipalities choose to pay out the money in cash.

You may qualify for a Dutch bank account

To open a bank account, you must meet the bank's requirements. If you have a bank account, the municipality can deposit the living allowance into this account.

Opening a Dutch bank account
