In the Netherlands, all registration locations for refugees from Ukraine are full. Are you just arriving in the Netherlands? Then you have to arrange your own accommodation for the first few days. Some people can still register at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. Read about it here.

All locations where refugees from Ukraine can register are full

The location in Utrecht where you can register if you have fled from Ukraine is full and therefore closed. This closes the last location in the Netherlands that was still open for Ukrainians upon arrival in the Netherlands. Normally in the Netherlands there are 4 registration locations where you can register upon arrival in the Netherlands. Now these locations are all temporarily closed.

The location in Utrecht is the last to be closed since February 2024 because there are already more people sleeping there than there is space. On the night of 26 to 27 February 2024, there were already 154 people sleeping there, instead of 140. Therefore, the municipality of Utrecht and the organisations in charge of safety have decided that the location must close. As soon as there is room again, the reception centre will reopen and you can register here again. It is not yet clear when this will be.

Some people can register at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht

Are you new to the Netherlands? Sometimes you can get a place in a reception centre at the registration location in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. This is possible if you:

  • Are older (65 years and older)

  • Are a family with children

  • Are a child and travelling alone

  • Are a woman and travelling alone

  • Are ill

You must arrange your own shelter upon arrival in the Netherlands

Men travelling alone and couples without children are temporarily denied a place in a reception centre at registration sites in the Netherlands. Also not in Utrecht. You must arrange your own accommodation upon arrival in the Netherlands. Can you stay with friends or family, for example? Then you can report to the municipality where they live.

To get temporary protection you must register with the municipality

Now that the reception centre is full, you have to arrange your own registration in the municipality to get protection in the Netherlands. This is how you make sure you are registered for temporary protection. Did not register with the municipality? Then you will not receive a place in a reception centre and living allowance. You will also not be allowed to work.
