
House of Representatives votes in favour of: Ukrainian students should pay less tuition fees

On 10 September, the House of Representatives approved a motion on Ukrainian students. The majority of the Lower House wants Ukrainian students in the Netherlands to pay lower tuition fees. These are Ukrainian young people who fled the war, who want to study at university or college in the Netherlands. Now the Dutch Ministry of Education has to make decisions.
The House of Representatives votes in favour of: study fees for Ukrainian students to be reduced
The
Ukrainian students in the Netherlands now have to pay between €8,000 and €16,000 annually. Dutch students pay €2,601 annually in tuition fees. Added to that are costs for textbooks and living expenses.
As major political parties like the VVD and CDA have agreed to the motion, there is a good chance that the Dutch Ministry of Education will now decide that study fees for Ukrainian students will become as high as the study fees of Dutch students and students from other EU countries studying in the Netherlands. That will be determined later, but when is not yet clear.

The motion is a great opportunity for 8,400 Ukrainian youth to build their future. So many Ukrainian schoolchildren in the Netherlands can now participate in higher education. Higher education is education at colleges and universities in the Netherlands, so

She also said, "We cannot keep students who want to do studies waiting any longer. Now it is up to the Dutch Ministry of Education to implement this motion as soon as possible. Ukrainian students will pay the same fees as Dutch and European students. We will make sure that this remains the case for as long as necessary."

Some Dutch universities already have lower tuition fees for Ukrainian students
Some universities already have the rule that Ukrainian students pay as much tuition as Dutch students. These are the Radboud University in Nijmegen and the Universities of Eindhoven, Twente and Maastricht. Students at these universities all pay €2601 annually.
