The IND makes a decision

Following your interview, the IND will assess your asylum application. Under the border procedure, the IND must make a decision quickly. In this article, you can read about the decisions the IND may take and what this means for your stay at the closed reception centre.

The IND will reach a decision within 5 weeks in the border procedure

The

assesses whether you need protection in the Netherlands. The IND considers what you said during your interview. The IND also examines your documents and any other information relevant to your application.

The IND mainly uses the written report of your interview. The recording of the interview may help to verify later what was said during the interview.

In the border procedure, the IND must decide on your asylum application within 5 weeks. You will be notified of the decision in a letter. This letter is called a ‘beschikking’ (decision). It states whether the IND has approved or rejected your application.

Option 1: You receive a positive decision

What happens if you receive a positive decision? Then you will be granted an asylum residence permit. This means you are allowed to stay in the Netherlands for the time being. You will then no longer be required to remain in the closed reception location.

Option 2: The IND requires further investigation

Is further investigation required? If so, you will be placed on the (accelerated) asylum procedure. You will receive a letter with further information about this procedure. Option 3: You receive a negative decision

What happens if you receive a negative decision) Then the IND is rejecting your asylum application. You will receive a letter from the IND explaining why your application has been rejected.

The letter explains what the consequences are for you and what you can do if you think the decision is incorrect.
