will explain the steps you may encounter. They will also explain:

  • Your rights during the asylum procedure.

  • Your obligations during the asylum procedure.

  • The various asylum procedures.

  • What to expect during the procedure.

Legal counselling is free of charge.

Legal counselling is a general explanation provided by the IND. The IND does not provide personalised legal advice regarding your own asylum application.

The IND does not tell you whether you stand a chance of being granted a residence permit. Nor does the IND offer any advice on exactly what you should tell them.

You can discuss this with your lawyer.

Do you already have a lawyer? If so, you can no longer receive legal counselling.

Your lawyer will provide you with personalised legal advice regarding your asylum application. Your lawyer can help you with your own case.

In the border procedure, you are immediately assigned a lawyer

Are you applying for asylum at an airport or in a port? At Schiphol, for example? If so, you may be subject to the border procedure. Under the border procedure, you will be assigned a lawyer straight away. That is why you will receive separate legal counselling.
