Ukrainians in municipal reception locations: beware of phone scams
In several places in the Netherlands, Ukrainians in municipal reception locations suffer from telephone scammers who speak Russian. Does this apply to you? Read what you can do here.
Russian-speaking scammers call Ukrainians in reception locations
In several municipal reception locations in the Netherlands last week, Ukrainians were called by Russian-speaking scammers. These scammers pretend to be police officers or employees of banks or Interpol. They ask Ukrainians for their bank information. These scammers know the first and last names of the people they call. Through this information, they try to convince people to give them access to bank information.
Please note: never give personal information or bank details over the phone
Do you also get calls from unknown phone numbers? If so, never give personal information or bank details to unknown people. Let other Ukrainians in the reception centre know this is happening so they are aware. You can do the following:
File a report with the police
Have you been called by an unknown number and asked for your personal or financial information? Then make a report to the Dutch police. You can call 0900-8844.
File a report with the online Fraud Helpdesk
