The House of Representatives approved the Dutch Asylum Emergency Measures Act and the Dutch Dual Status Act. Read what these acts mean and what consequences they will have if the Senate approves them. The Senate is likely to vote on the act in January 2026.

This is how long the asylum procedure takes in the Netherlands

VluchtelingenWerk Nederland (VWN) no longer present at all central reception locations

From 1 January 2026, VluchtelingenWerk Nederland (VWN) will no longer be present at all reception locations for asylum seekers. The Dutch Ministry of Asylum and Migration has decided that VWN will receive less money. And that VWN has fewer tasks at the reception locations. As of 1 December this year, VWN must already stop assisting new applications for family reunification at all reception locations.

Exciting preliminary results from the House of Representatives elections: D66 the largest party

On 29 October, the Dutch were allowed to vote in the elections to the House of Representatives. The votes are still being counted at this time, but D66 is leading for now with a few more votes than the PVV. Both parties have 26 seats. This is followed by VVD, GL-PvdA and CDA.

IND to decide on asylum applications of 100 Syrian asylum seekers

Starting this week, the IND is again conducting interviews with Syrian asylum seekers who have not yet received a decision on their asylum applications. This and next week, the IND will conduct interviews with 100 people in AZC Budel. This does not yet mean that Syrians will be forced to return if their asylum applications are rejected.
