You can apply for temporary protection in the Netherlands

You can travel to the Netherlands for your 1st 90 days in the EU to request protection

Do you have a Ukrainian, biometric passport and are in the European Union (EU) for less than 90 days? Then you may enter the Netherlands without a visa. You do not need a visa within those 90 days to come to the Netherlands and apply for temporary protection.

Has your 90-day free period expired? Then you can still travel to the Netherlands to apply for temporary protection.

This can be done in 2 ways:

  • You can request an extension of your free term.

  • You can travel through the EU to the Netherlands at your own risk. You may be checked at the border to see if you are entitled to enter the

    . If you cannot show proof of residence or a residence permit, you may be stopped at the border.


To get temporary protection in the Netherlands, you must meet certain conditions

Before you travel to the Netherlands, check whether you meet the conditions for temporary protection. You cannot apply for temporary protection in the Netherlands if you already have, or have previously had, temporary protection in another EU country.
